I was invited by IBM to speak at a computer conference in Vienna, Austria. Considering that I had never been to Vienna, and IBM would be paying my expenses, it didn't take long for me and my love of travel to agree to the request. The conference was five days long, from May 28 - June 1, 2001. I arrived at Vienna on Friday, the 25th and spent most of the weekend seeing the sights of Vienna.

There are over seventy pictures in this minitrip set, so look and read about as many of them as you might like. I enjoyed my visit to Vienna and I wanted to share it with those that might like to travel "the Yelavich Road". With each photo, you can click on the photo to enlarge its view and then go back to the smaller version, the text and the next picture or end your viewing session.

This first photo shows the Sofitel Hotel, in a neighborhood called Belvedere, on the near southeast side of 'downtown' Vienna. All of the speakers for the conference stayed at this hotel, which was about five miles from the ultra modern conference center called Austria Center on the north side of the city.

The Sofitel Hotel is modern and more centrally located, so going out each day for walking tours around the city proved to be an advantage. The hotel's address, should you care, is Heumarkt 35-37, Wien (Vienna) Austria, A-1030.
