August 16, 2005 - St.Thomas shoreline

Our next port of call was St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. Not as large as San Juan, Puerto Rico, but an island and town with its own character. At most ports of call, it's usually a short walk off the ship and into the city, but here at St.Thomas, for those who like to walk, let me say it's a long walk to get into town. Ah, but you get to see the real side of life when you take the time to walk with the locals.

This photo shows the St.Thomas city center as I walked from the ship to town. No major attractions along the way, but certainly a look at how the locals live and work. That's part of what travel is all about.
