August 15, 2005 - Castillo de San Felipe del Morro

As we entered the channel and San Juan harbor area, the Castle of St. Philip of the Headland stood its ground to greet us. The fortress is more commonly known as El Morro. Construction of the fortress was begun in 1539 and was named for the patron saint of Spain's King Philip II (1556-1598).
