The Royal Caribbean cruise line uses the ship terminal at Miami's waterfront for passenger check-in. Travelers are encouraged to use the RC web site to fill in travel documents, so as to speed up the check-in process, but you can complete the check-in process at the terminal on sailing day. Obvious things like passport and emergency contact information are verified. Once travel documents are checked, the passenger is issued shipboard identification and other information relative to the cruise and its optional on-shore excursions.
As with other cruise ships, the Royal Caribben issues an identification card, much like a credit card, which enables the passenger to gain entry to their cabin, and to charge any on-board expenses to their cabin, payable at the end of the cruise. The cashless society is a very workable scheme.
