As is the case in most major cities around the U.S., the financing of sports stadiums and/or arenas is a hotly contested issue. The taxpayer, especially the ones who are not sports minded, don't like the idea that tax dollars may being used to build such facilities. So a recent trend has been to enable corporate sponsors, such as American Airlines in Miami, to subsidize the building and operation of a stadium or area, in exchange for having the facility named for the corporate sponsor (advertising has its price).
This photo shows the AA Arena in Miami, which is basically downtown and close to the Bayside shopping center. Quite a modern looking building. Being downtown, in theory it's more accessible to the public.
