November 11, 2005 - Old city walls; Marrakech

Our hotel at Marrakech was just outside the so-called city walls. City walls date back centuries when most cities had city walls as a protective means to ward off invaders or other attacking enemies. A portion on Marrakech's old city walls were close to my hotel and shown in this photograph. The holes in the walls are supposedly the result of wooden poles used in the construction of the walls. The holes seem sporadic to me.
