November 10, 2005 - One PC for the passengers

One or two passengers brought their own personal computers with them. All other passengers made use of the one PC located in the lounge, to send email. Email could be sent to a passenger but it was not viewed online, rather it was received, printed and delivered to your cabin.

There was no charge for small messages but there was a charge for messages over a certain size. When you're out on the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Africa, just having Internet access, however fast, was a convenience.

The keyboard layout however was a pain. If you have not traveled abroad you may not be familiar with the keyboard layouts for PCs in other countries. Why they have to be different, I don't know, but for anyone who touch-types, you wind up with an odd looking message.
