The ship's crew had to really know their stuff when it comes to raising or lowering the sails. The ropes used to manage the sails are not all located in one central spot, but are to be found on both starboard and port passageways and even some passageway across the ship's beam. And in addition to pulling on the right ropes, there was the task of coiling the ropes to avoid any accidents by someone stepping on or in loose rope. Job well done.
