If you're not familiar with geography, find an atlas so you can locate Gibraltar. Thoughout history, Gibraltar has been an important military location because of its strategic and logistical value. It is located at the narrow sea lane between the wide open Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
During our Sea Cloud cruise the ship regularly sailed at night to cover the distance between the ports we visited. On this occasion, we boarded the Sea Cloud at Motril, Spain, sailed overnight, and was able to spend the full day at Gibraltar.
Once docked, we had our first glimpse of "the rock", famously referred to in phrases like "solid as the rock of Gibraltar". Later this morning we would take the cable car to the top of the rock and visit with the small apes which inhabit the upper elevations.
