Within minutes our group walked from the Palace Hotel to the massive gate shown in the photo to gain entrance to the Alhambra. Contained within the complex is the Alcazaba (fortress), Palace de Carolos V (a royal residence), numerous gardens, chapels, smaller palaces, many courtyards, etc.
I don't know why, but passing through the entrance gate made me feel like I had entered the Emerald City and we might see the Wizard of Oz.
