November 4, 2005 - Columbus ship replicas

Due west of Seville on the Atlantic coastline is the town (city?) of Huelva, which has much to do with Christopher Columbus and his searching for the new world. He once stayed at monastery near here as he awaited approval for his journey from the king and queen of Spain.

Among the tributes to Columbus and his famous voyage are the replicas of his ships - the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria - moored at a land-locked marina called Muelle de las Carabelas. Interestingly, visitors can climb aboard any and all of the ships to personally get an idea of what it must have been like to serve on one of the ships. Courage? Or foolhardy?
