Another custom with tours of this variety are the group meals. Breakfast is usually at buffet at the hotel we're staying out, and often the evening meal is at the hotel as well. Sometimes the midday meal is at the hotel but more often lunch is somewhere in the area we're visiting. Overall, the meals on this trip were quite good, but some stood out as being exceptional. I'll make comment about meals as we progress through these photos and narrative.
There may have been a round of introductions during the orientation meeting but meals provided the greater opportunity to come to know who you were traveling with. I make it my practice to memorize the names of the participants before starting the trip, such that I can concentrate on matching names and faces beginning with the first group meal.
Not all meals were taken together, but occasionally we had a free lunch or dinner time to go off on our own. I was good to get away from a group meal every now and then and also to try some local restaurants recommended by say the hotel staff.
