July 29, 2006 - Landscape along the way to Abakan

I'm still learning how to be a better photographer. Instead of just recording pictures of specific attractions, I'm trying to be more observant of simple things like landscape or people. A friend of mine is an outstanding photographer of people and her pictures convey an interesting human interest story.

Unique to this trip on the Trans-Siberian Railway was the distance covered (6000 miles) and the terrain which passed our window each day. Eastern Russia, I thought was more wooded. Central Russia (Siberia) was very repetitive with its green rolling hills, with some forested areas. Because of the severe winter weather and the short summer growning season, there are few farms, as we think of them in the U.S.. Interesting also was the fact that there were few horses and/or cattle on the Siberian plain. Not so in Mongolia, just a few miles to the south.
