July 27, 2006 - A ferry boat to Listvyanka

On arrival at Port Baikal, our group disembarked the train and then boarded a small car ferry for a trip further north on the lake's western shore. I didn't ask but it appeared that the train track did not extend beyond Port Biakal.

Our destination was Listvyanka, a small town, said to be one of the first settlements in this area. During the summer months (and a nicer day than today's weather) we were told that Listvyanka is crowded with tourists, both Russian as well as foreigners like us.

The short boat ride was a change of pace for us, something different than the rumbling train ride.
