July 17, 2006 - Getting there

As with any trip, you have to take the first stip(s) to get where it is that you want to go. For this trip, my journey began with a flight from my home town, Sparks, Nevada, using the Reno airport, to Los Angeles.

I wasn't too crazy about the itineary the travel agent made for me because I got to LA and had a seven hour layover, waiting for my overseas flight on Korean Airlines. But wait I did. During the wait I met and introduced myself to quite a number of people who were booked on the same Trans-Siberian Railway journey.

The overseas flight from LA to Seoul, Korea was with Korean Airlines. I had flown with Korean Airlines on a previous trip and thought their service was quite good.

On arrival at Seoul, I was again faced with a seven hour layover before I could catch my last flight leg to Vladivostok, Russia. National Geographic arranged for us to use the tranisit hotel at the Seoul airport, to freshen up, take a nap, etc. It was a long day.
