I thought this photo would be a good way to begin this travelog. As you drive up the Mt.Rose Highway from the Reno/Sparks area, you can stop at various places to take a photo of Mt.Rose, and/or to begin a hike to its summit. You can begin a hike at a park called Galena Creek, and hike from 6000 feet to the summit at 11,000 feet. Or you can park where I took this photo and hike to the summit beginning at about 7000 foot elevation. The most popular staring point is at the 8000 foot level. No matter which level you choose, it will be a challenge to your physical considition but rewarding with the views you'll have along your hike.
