August 1, 2000 - Mt.Rose sheep valley

08010001.htm

As you begin the hike up to the Mt.Rose summit, you first can enjoy the many views along the way. This pictures shows an area sometimes referred to as the sheep meadow, but I don't think sheep have grazed here for some time. During the summer, it's a great place to go for an easy hike in the rolling hills. In winter, this is the place I spend many weekends snowmobiling. Here in the High Sierras it can easily snow to 8-10 foot depths, although it varies and can be deeper in other parts of this mountain range. This picture is looking south, and Lake Tahoe is just a short distance to the right (west).
