Tumul is located on the Yucatan's east coast and is the site of our group's last visit to a major Maya ruin. People are bound to ask me, which Maya ruin was best or that I enjoyed best. Well, there is no simple answer to that question. I can give an answer and who can argue my having an opinion, especially when the choice is different than theirs.
Chichen Iza and Uxmal have their high-rising pyramides, and the other sites we visited had their preservation of unique Mayan structures. So my answer to the hypothetical question is, I liked something about each of ruin sites we visited. Although Tulum does not have a high pyramidt,, it does have a unique site with ruins found literally all over the place. Tulum reminded me more of a park with landscaped exhibits than a collection of tall structures. In any case, it was a pleasureable visit. It would be best if one had a site map to assist you with your visit.
On entering the ruin grounds and clearing the foilage which encircles the park-like area, the first task for a visitor is simply to grasp the size of the ruins. A lot of enjoyable walking lies ahead. The photo shown here is my looking to the right upon entering the ruin grounds. There are paved footpaths which will take you through the site or you can just walk across the grass areas.
