February 13, 2008 - Another town, another hotel

One of the things you should consider when you plan a vacation or sightseeing trip is amount of time you want to spend at each location and the total time of your trip. With some trips, you reach a destination, unpack, and you operate from a base location. This would also be true if you took a cruise, where you board the ship and it takes you from port to port, with you not having to pack and unpack some number of times during your trip.

But then there are the gypsy-like trips where you planned to be at a given city only for a day or two and then move on to the next city and its attractions. This could be the result of you trying to see and do a great deal in some geographic area, purposely limiting your time at any one location, but visiting many locations by trip's end. That was the case with this trip of mine.

I just arbitrarily decided to see as much of southeast Ireland as I could in one week. Sometimes I plan trips like this purposely to survey an area I've not previously been to. The idea is, take a quick sample, and if I like what I saw, I can always come back and spend more time. After this trip, I would like to come back and spend more time at Dublin. And, I don't mind driving and putting on road miles but I think I would allocate more time so that I drove on one day and was able to use the entire next day for sightseeing.

So anyway, this photo shows my hotel room at Limerick, a city in west central Ireland. Why Limerick? Well, in planning my circular trip through southeast Ireland, I had to close the loop and get point back in the direcdtion of Dublin and its airport. I guess Limerick could be termed and industrial city or area, but I had been there once before and thought there was more I could/should see. My problem this time was the time spent locating my hotel, which cut into what time I had remaining for sightseeing.
