October 2, 2001, Lufthansa to Frankfurt

From September 30 to October 22, I participated in an Elderhostel trip, visiting Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary. Elderhostel is a U.S.-based, non-profit organization, providing educational travel for senior citizens.

With the first destination being Dubrovnik, Croatia, my itinerary called for me to first travel to Frankfurt, Germany, stay overnight and begin to adjust to the ultimate nine hour time difference between my home in Nevada and Croatia. I flew United Airlines, Reno to San Francisco and then Lufthansa from San Francisco to Frankfurt.

The Novotel Hotel at the Frankfort airport provided shuttle service between the airport and hotel. The hotel was comfortable and had a good restaurant for both my evening meal and breakfast the following morning. The overnight stay was part of the Elderhostel program cost.

The Lufthansa flight could have been more comfortable if the airline has installed seating with more legroom as have other airlines such as United and American. As a result, at my height (6'1") the overnight flight was a bit cramped. But, I survived.
