This set of web pages is different than other pages I have in the travel section of my web site. Usually I document a given trip by showing what I did on a given day, the sites I visited and a bit of text to describe each photo.
In September 2006, I had business reasons to visit England. Somewhat coincidentally, I came across an announcement by Elderhostel describing a program for August 30-September 8, which dovetailed nicely with my business trip scheduled for September 11-14.
I had heard about the underground rooms used by Winston Churchill and his war cabinet during WWII. The Elderhostel program provided a tour of these wartime facilities, with accompanying lectures to describe not only the physical facilites but to review the role these rooms played during World War II.
After a few days in London, the program continued at Oxford University, a short distance northwest of London. The program there included lectures by former and current experts in the field of intelligence.
The Elderhostel program was mostly lectures but with some field trips to see sites which had something to do with the subject of wartime intelligence work. For this reason, I have chosen not to document this trip chronologically, describing my daily activities. Instead, I have included here, a set of pictures which deal mostly with the city of Oxford, showing its noteworthy attractions.
