The famous Hermitage Museum is contained within four buildings referred to as the Winter Palaces of Peter the Great. The largest of the three is the original winter palace and in the late 1700s, three smaller buildings were built along side.
Today our group spent virtually the entire day at the Hermitage, first being led on a guided tour and then left to tour as we liked. The museum is absolutely huge! The buildings themselves are a work of architectural wonder, then add to that the priceless collections of art and artifacts, the museum is a must-see for anyone visiting St.Petersburg.
