July 10, 2003 - Lecture: Architecture & History of St.Petersburg

Because of being bussed into the city center, our 8:30AM start put us in town for our 9:30AM lecture with Dr. Irina Grichenco at the Rumiantsev Palace. She used a PC to display her visuals and interwove a history of St.Petersburg with the architecture of its primary buildings or other sites.

As with other lectures, the person's presentation skills and command of the English language could make a considerably difference. I thought this lecture was a bit long (9:30-Noon) and I found it difficult to maintain my attention on the speaker and the subject(s).

An irritant to most in our group was that the LCD projector used to show the presenter's visuals was mounted on a small platform held above us by wires from the side walls. For whatever reason, it did not remain stationary. Have you ever tried watching a presentation where the visuals moved constantly (however slightly)? Ah, the trials and trivails of the tourist.
