On this morning, our group headed out by bus to a place called Rumsiskes, where we would spend the morning touring an Open Air Museum. There are a number of museums or parks of this type in the U.S. and during this trip we saw several. Basically, this type of museum either relocates a building from elsewhere in the country or constructs a replica and includes it in a larger display of structures, representing some time period.
Most of what we saw at Rumsiskes dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries, with log cabin and thatched roof type of buildings. I took special note of the construction because I happen to build children's log cabin playhouses, patterned after the child's toy, Lincoln Logs.
The Open Air Musueum is made up of serveral little villages or homesteads. This photo was taken in the village of Aukstaiciai.
