I have had good experiences taking trips sponsored by Elderhostel. Elderhostel is a non-profit organization which provides education and travel programs for senior citizens. My prior Elderhostel trips include visiting Central Europe (Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary), river rafting 225 miles down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, and also visiting the major capital cities in China.
In my 40 year working career, I never had the opportunity to visit the Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) or Russia. So, now that I'm semi-retired, I've begun to make a point of visiting places I have never been to. In addition to the Baltic States, this trip included visits to St.Petersburg and Moscow.
You can click on the map at the left of this web page to see an enlarged view and look for the cities I visited. To begin, take note of Vilnius in the southeast corner of Lithuania. Then progress north and find Riga, Latvia, on the Gulf of Riga. I also visited Tallinn, Estonia, on the Gulf of Finland, the northern-most of the Baltic States.
A bit north of Estonia and to the east you should find St.Petersburg, Russia. From there, it's a relative short distance to the southeast where you would find Moscow (not shown on the map).
