When in Rome, do as the Romans do....but I still like an American breakfast. Breakfast in each of the Scandinavian countries was very similar. Yes, you could get cereal and milk, maybe some yogurt, a mixed fruit dish, cold cuts, salad, coffee and tea. If there were eggs for breakfast it may have been a poor case of scrambled eggs, a boiled egg which may or may not be what you think (hard or soft boiled. I forgot, there usually was fruit juice (orange and other). If there was sausage or bacon, it certainly was not anything like the American equivalent. Pancakes, waffles or French toast was rarely on any breakfast menu. The presentation of food at breakfast buffets was usually quite good. Sometimes, fresh fruit was available.
Ah, but I would have like to have had hot scrabled eggs, occasionally fried eggs, and yes, waffles, crepes, pancakes or French toast. I survived, to be sure, but to have hard salami, cucumbers, tomatoes and green peppers is not a breakfast I'm familiar with.
The breakfast buffet shown here was at our Stockholm hotel, the Rica City Hotel. The photo was taken from the second floor atrium area where you could be seated as an alternative to the ground floor seating area.
