May 16, 2004 - Elderhostel trip to Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland)

I have had good experiences taking trips sponsored by Elderhostel. Elderhostel is a non-profit organization which provides education and travel programs for senior citizens. My prior Elderhostel trips include visiting Central Europe (Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary), river rafting 225 miles down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, visiting the major capital cities in China and also a tour of the Baltic States (Lithuania, Lativa, Estonia) and Russia.

In my 40 year working career, I had occasion to visit Denmark but not the other Scandinavian countries (Norway, Sweden and Finland). So now that I'm semi-retired, I've begun to make a point of visiting places I have never been to. This trip gave me an exposure to the capital cities of Scandinavia (Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki).

Copenhagen is located on one of the islands that make up the country of Denmark. Oslo is on the south coast of Norway in an area referred to as the Oslo Fjord. Stockholm, like Copenhagen, is built on some 14 small islands on the south coast of Sweden. Helsinki is a natural seaport on the Baltic Sea.
