A well preserved fort (castle?) which once guarded the port of Herakleion still stands prominently in the harbour. The fort/castle was not on the agenda for my group's tour of the city, but I managed to find time this day to venture off on my own. I enjoy touring sites of this kind, climbing in and on the structure and taking note of its architecture. A most enjoyable visit.
