Just below our hotel in Santorini there was a small, very nicely decorated church with its enclosed graveyard, which was very well maintained. We were told by our program leader that the Greek people are very religious and feel strongly about having a church near their home, even having one built on their own property if the land were available and that they could afford it.
I walked around the church and through its graveyard, but being a weekday no one was about. Rather than a feeling of uncaring, because of the neatness of the church and its graveyard I though instead of how caring the people are who attend this church or have loved ones buried there. A humbling experience.
