April 12, 2005 - Our touring begins

Now that everyone is assembled it's time to begin some serious touring. Of the thirty-six people who signed up for the trip, two couples decided not to make the trip, but the rest of us had a great time. Yesterday was clearly an arrival day for all of us, and for each of us there was some time adjustment that our bodies and internal clocks needed. In my case, I seem to adjust quickly going to Europe, but coming home, and in a westerly direction, has always been a problem for me. An old rule of thumb is it probaly takes a day per time zone to readjust to your home time.

Anyway, one of the advantages of staying at the Parthenon Hotel was its close proximity to things like the Acropolis. For our group it was a relatively short walk "down the street", so to speak, and we were there. Just to get names straight, the "Acropolis" is the huge mountain on top of which the "Parthenon" was built. This photo shows our first view of the site for the trip. Many of our group came back later to spend still more time visiting this remarkable site.

The Parthenon dates back to about 490 BC.
