I had been to Athens on three prior occasions but I never traveled outside the metropolitan area. I had read about the Greek Islands and seen pictures of the islands either in books/magazines or on television programs such as National Geographic. Now was the time to experience the islands first hand.

The island grouping that I visited is shown as the Cyclades, just southeast of Athens, beginning with Paros (not shown explicitly in the map). After Paros, I visited Thira, just south of Paros, more commonly referred to as Santorini. The last island visited during the trip was Crete, shown at the southmost part of the map.
