In March 1974, a farmer in the XiYang village accidently discovered some pottery fragments and ancient bronze weapons while digging for a well. In July 1974, the government began excavation of thousands of square meters, eventually discovering literally thousands of terra cotta warriors, horses, wagons and other figures.

A museum was built in 1979 to display the terra cotta warriers and worldwide attention was created for this major find. In this photo, we're looking at the entrance of the museum.
