January 31, 2007 - My hotel room at Papeete, Tahiti

All things are relative. I have previously commented that our stay at the Paradise Inn at Rarotonga was less than desirable. Not to badger the point but among our concerns was - no air conditioning, no pool, unusable beach, minimal and repetitive continental breakfast, poor room lighting, etc.

I mention all this because as we ended our visit to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands and moved to Tahiti to continue our trip, we were most pleasantly surprised by the overall comfort of the Royal Tahitien Hotel at Papeete. The facilities and amenitites were very similar to most American hotels and far superior to what we had at Rarotonga - air condiitioning, swimming pool, sandy black beach, full service dining room for all meals, etc.

This photo shows my room at the Royal Tahitien - king size bed, TV, writing table, full length closet - and around the corner to the well appointed bathroom there was an electric kettle for having tea or coffee.

A most comfortable stay. And I will also mention that the authors for the Lonely Planet tour book recommend the Royal Tahitien out of all hotels at Tahiti. That's quite an endorsement. The only negative about the Royal Tahitien is that it is not located in Papeete's downtown area, but bus service is available.
