When the whaler's packed up and left Whaler's Bay, they really did leave, and left not much behind. Buildings and boats were left to rot in the harsh Antarctic winters (and summers too, I guess). This photo shows one of serveral boats left behind. As the old saying goes, "if only walls could talk", or restated "if only rotting boats could talk", what a story they might tell.
The rocky beach at Whaler's Bay was large, with ocean views atop the hills to the right, many abandoned structures in the center of the beach area, and some interesting structures to the far left of the beach. Our visit occupied the morning with personal investigations here and there. Not much in the way of penguins on this island, but a seal every now and then.
