January 25, 2005 - Boot wash on return to the ship

The Polar Star had sensible procedures for leaving and returning to the ship after an island landing. When we left the ship, we gave our cabin number to a member of the ship's crew taking attendance. When we returned to the ship, we again gave our cabin number such that the crew member could determine that all passengers had returned from the shore.

Another procedure that we all followed was that of a boot wash in a tray of water and disinfectant. With us walking all over the island, through penguin rookeries with their 'droppings' all over the place, the ship did not want us bringing back some undesirable element (bacteria, etc). The procedure was followed by all with no difficulty.
