Meals aboard the Polar Star were served in the dining room (cabin) on the third deck which was not far above the ship's water line. The food during the entire trip was outstanding. I never would have imagined an icebreaker having such an extensive menu - steak, assorted fish, shepard's pie, salads, varied desserts, hot and cold breakfast food, etc. Well done!
But on days like those crossing Drake's Passage - 1000km (660 miles) from Ushuaia to Antarctica- it really tested your sea legs (ability to stand and walk while the ship was riding the ocean's waves. It also tested your ability to keep your food down. No one had sea sickness that I was aware of and I saw a lot of clean plates after each meal.
