January 18, 2005 - Hello Ushuaia............

I'm not sure what draws people to live and work in this southern most city of Argentina, but there are 60,000 souls doing just that. Not a glamorous town, but apparently the sea provides employment and drives the local infrastructure. The docks are busy with sea-related shipping and tourism, the Argentine Navy has a base here, and if you have a run-in with the law, there's a prison here as well.

Our interest/concern was simply arriving safely, getting our bags and meeting our local guide and bus transportation to take us to our local hotel. All went as planned. Albeit small, the Ushuaia airport served all our needs.
