The Dubrovnik airport does not have multiple gates with jetways for passengers to enter or leave an aircraft without going outside. A plane simply taxies as close to the one gate and points the aircraft in one direction or another before shutting down the engines. I was hoping for nose-in parking such that I could get a photo of the British Airways jet, but that didn't happen. At least I got a good shot of the Dubrovnik sign high above the airport building, just for the record. The last time I was here (2001), I was with a group and I took pictures of friends disembarking the aircraft. Traveling alone this time, I had no such need.
Going through passport control and customs seemed a bit non-chalant. Apparently, Croatia is not feeling any terrorist threats these days, so it was a quick stamp of my passport and off to baggage claim. That proved to be a pleasant experience because I found my bags quickly and was ready to go. I say pleasant because I had no idea where my bags might be since they were originally due to fly with me "yesterday". But, good news, they was routed on my same reticketed flights and arrived with me. One less problem to solve.
I looked for my car and driver, who should have been there to pick me up, but when it was clear he wasn't there, I phoned the apartment house where I would be staying, and the driver was there in about twenty minutes. Stay focused Bob, stay focused.
