Cowboy Shoot

On June 14-16, I accompanied a friend who was participating in a Cowboy Shoot at Fernley, Nevada, about 25 miles east of my home in Sparks, NV. A Cowboy Shoot is made up of some number of 'stages' (12 in this case), where each stage has a different arrangement of targets. The targets at each stage are shot at in a particular sequence - for instance, five shots with one revolver going left to right, then the other revolver shooting five shots, right to left, and then followed by maybe nine rounds at three targets at 50 yards, shooting three times at each target and then winding up with two shots at each of two shotgun targets. In this example, the 10+9+2 shots would be timed and the really good shooters can do this in say 25 seconds.....without a miss!!

If you click on this photo, you can get a larger image and see the various targets. At the far end are some orange rifle targets. The black and while circular targets are pistol targets and the small silvery square targets close to the ground are shotgun targets. The shooter shoots different targets from different positions along the front of the mock up building.
