LAN
Local Area Network. A means by which locally connected computer hardware systems can communicate with each other, typically using ethernet or token-ring technology.

LDAP
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.

LDC
Logical Device Code. A terminal device definition where more than one resource may be attached to a communications subsystem.

LDGW
Lotus Domino Go WebServer. An OS/390 web server.

LE
Language Environment. LE can be used in a CICS environment to provide a runtime library that establishes a common execution environment for programming languages.

LIC
Last in chain.

life cycle
The stages of a business application's life cycle are defined as Design, Develop, Test and Update.

LIFO Storage
A CICS storage area used by reentrant programs to storage register save areas.

LIFO
Last-in-first-out. A queueing technique in which the last item added to the queue is the first one to be retrieved.

LISTCAT
A VSAM utility function to list the contents of VSAM data sets.

LLA
Library Lookaside. An MVS facility designed to minimize I/O by keeping load modules in a VLF data space. Refer to the CICS Performance Guide.

LMAS

LMPEO
Large message performance enhancement option.

LOADPOINT
An option of the INQUIRE PROGRAM command used to determine the address of a program module.

LOB
Line of business. A major component of a business enterprise, organized for business objectives.

local queue manager
With MQSeries, a program which provides messaging services for local programs connected to it.

local queue
With MQSeries, a queue which is managed by a local queue manager, which provides messaging services for the queue.

LOGR
A specification for the use of the MVS Logger.

LPA
Link Pack Area. An MVS main storage area, below the 16mb line, which can contain reentrant CICS or user programs.

LPAR
Logical Partition. Partitioned MVS storage in which a separate image of an operating system can execute, and comprised of its own set of resources (processors, channels, storage, etc).

LRM
Logical resource mapping. An object used by the Component Broker container to locate logical resources in the system.

LSN
Log sequence number.

LSPR
Large System Performance Reference. A document used to assist users considering migrating a known workload from a machine with one set of performance characteristics to another.

LSQA
Local System Queue Area. An MVS main storage area used to hold control blocks for storage and contents supervision.

LSR
Local Shared Resources. A VSAM facility in which multiple files can share the same buffers and strings (control blocks).

LTC
Local transaction containment. Used to define application server behavior.

LTPA
Lightweight Third Party Authentication. A means to authenticate userid and password using a registry such as LDAP.

LU
Logical Unit. In SNA, a port or device by which a user gaims access to the services of the network.

LU0
Logical Unit 0. An SNA protocol for communication with a non-SNA binary synchronous terminal.

LU1
In SNA, a type of logical terminal (printers, keyboards, remote files).

LU2
In SNA, a type of logical terminal for 3270 displays.

LU3
In SNA, a type of logical terminal for 3270 printers.

LU4
In SNA, a type of logical terminal (e.g. 6670).

LU6
In SNA, a type of logical terminal for processor to processor communications.

LU6.1
Logical Unit 6.1. An SNA protocol for communication between processors. Used for CICS/IMS intersystem communications.

LU6.2
Logical Unit 6.2. An SNA protocol for communication between host processor and a device, or between processors. Used by CICS intersystem communications. APPC is the protocol used with LU6.2 architecture.

LUAPFX
A VTAM APPL definition specification to enable VTAM dynamic alias name support for CICS terminal owning regions.

LUW
Logical Unit of Work. A single CICS transaction could be made up of one or more LUWs, each delimited by a syncpoint indicating completion of that unit of work.

LUWID
Logical Unit of Work ID (identifier).
