CA
  1. Certificate Authority. A trusted organization that signs digital certificates.
  2. Control Area. A VSAM unit of space allocation on DASD.
  3. Computer Associates. An independent software vendor (ISV).

cache
  1. A general term used to describe a data holding facility.
  2. A specific function of the IBM Coupling Facility.

CAD
Computer assisted design.

CADL
An RDO command log on transient data, used to record VTAM resources installed in the active CICS region.

CAIL
An RDO command log on transient data, used to record installed resource definitions for programs, transactions, mapsets, profiles, partition sets, files and LSR pools.

CAS
In CICSPlex, the Coordinating Address Space.

CASE
An operand of the BMS DFHMDF macro indicating that the field is to be coverted to upper case if KATAKANA is also specified.

CAT5
Category 5. Four twisted pair of copper wire enclosed in an outer jacket, suitable for phone, fax, modem, or high speed digital communications.

CATA
CICS autoinstall transaction for installing terminal definitions.

CATD
CICS autoinstall transaction for deleting terminal definitions.

CAVM
CICS Availability Manager. In XRF, the mechanism that provides integrity for a CICS system. The CAVM uses a message and control file to communicate between the active and alternate systems.

CBIDERR
An exception condition raised when certain VTAM operations are attempted and either a profile or attach header cannot be found.

CBIPO
Custom Built Installation Product Option. A method of installing CICS software on MVS.

CBEP
CICS Business Event Publisher. An ISV program product that enables events caused by CICS applications to trigger user-written messages to be sent to user-selected MQ destinations.

CBLCARD
A CICS Translator option specifying that a COBOL CBL statement should be generated.

CBPDO
Custom Built Product Delivery Option. A method of installing CICS software on MVS.

CBRC
A CICS transaction for use with IMS DBCTL Data Base Recovery Control (DBRC).

CBTS
CICS Business Transaction Services (BTS). A set of application and support services for use with complex business transactions (i.e. a business transaction made up of two or more CICS transactions).

CCF
IBM Common Connector Framework. An architecture that defines a standard way for a Java program to interact with an application server such as CICS, IMS or SAP. CCF provides a client API.

CCI
J2EE Common Connector Interface.

CCIN
A CICS transaction to allow CICS Clients to pass information to the server regarding the connection definition.

CCM
CORBA Component Model. A model defined by the Object Management Group.

CCPI
A transient data destination, used by CPI-C.

CDM
Common Data Model. A template of the CBConnector configuration data structure.

CDMF
Commercial data masking facility. A version of the DES algorithm used outside the United States.

CDR
Common Data Representation. A low-level data representation of the General Inter-0RB Protocol (GIOP).

CDRM
Cross Domain Resource Manager.

CDROM
Compact Disk, Read Only Memory. A storage media often used to distribute software and/or documentation.

CDRSC
Cross Domain Resource.

CDS
Cell Directory Service. A service which manages names within a DCE cell.

CDSA
CICS dynamic storage area, allocated below 16mb, as CICS-key storage.

CDT
Class Descriptor Table. A table containing RACF-defined classes which further define entities such as users, groups and resources.

CEBR
A CICS transaction used to browse temporary storage queues.

CEBT
A CICS transaction used to control the alternate CICS system in an XRF configuration.

CEC
Central Electronic Complex. A physical machine with associated storage, memory and device connections.

CECI
A CICS transaction used to check the syntax of CICS EXEC commands and optionally execute the command; i.e. a command interpreter.

CECS
A CICS transaction used to check the syntax of CICS EXEC commands; i.e. a command interpreter.

CEDA
CICS Dynamic Add, is an online transaction as used with the CICS Resource Definition Online (RDO) facility. CEDA can be used to define and/or delete CICS resource definition information.

CEDF
CICS Execution Diagnostic Facility. A CICS-provided transaction used to invoke the execution diagnostic facility program to display application program EXEC CICS commands before and after their execution.

CEDX
A version of CEDF for testing of non-terminal transactions.

cell
A grouping of WebSphere nodes into a single adminstrative domain.

CEMT
CICS Master Terminal Transaction. A CICS-provided transaction which can be used to display and/or alter CICS environmental information.

CEO
Chief Executive Officer. A common title for person within the enterprise having overall responsibility for the enterprise.

CERTIFICATE
An operand of the EXTRACT command, used to obtain information from the X.509 certificate that was received from a client during an SSL handshake.

CESD
CICS default shutdown assist transaction.

CESF
CICS sign-off transaction, disconnecting an operator from the system.

CESN
CICS sign-on transaction, for entering operator userid and password.

CEST
A CICS transaction used to invoke a subset of the master terminal transaction (CEMT).

CETR
A CICS transaction used to control CICS tracing activity.

CF
Coupling facility. A special purpose machine, which may be real hardware, or emulation of that hardware in an MVS LPAR. The functions of a coupling facility are list, lock and cache.

CF390
CICS Family: Communicating from CICS on System/390. A CICS reference manual.

CFDT
Coupling Facility Data Tables. A CICS data table placed in a coupling facility for faster read/write access to data.

CFIPC
CICS Family: Interproduct Communication. A CICS reference manual.

CFRM
Coupling Facility Resource Management. A set of definitions for the use of a coupling facility.

CG
Customization Guide. A CICS reference manual.

CGI
Common Gateway Interface. A programming interface of a web server at which input/ouput data can be processed.

CI
Control Interval. An area of direct access storage in which VSAM can store data and distribute free space. A VSAM unit of data transmission.

CICS PD/MVS
An IBM product which provided a set of tools to analyze and manage CICS storage dumps. The product is no longer available.

CICS
Customer Information Control System. An IBM product for transaction management. Sometimes referred to as a Database/Data Communication (DB/DC) product.

CICS-IA
CICS Interdependency Analyzer. An IBM software product which collects data regarding resource usage in a CICS environment. The product can assist with managing application affinities.

CICS-key
Storage in the key in which CICS is given control (key 8) when CICS storage protection is used.

CICS-PA
CICS Performance Analyzer. An IBM software product which assists the user with analyzing CICS Monitoring Facility (CMF) data in a batch environment.

CICSPARS/MVS
An IBM product which provided a method for reporting performance and accounting information produced by the CICS monitoring facility. CICSPARS is no longer available.

CICSplex
A set of interconnected CICS regions. The lower case 'p' in CICSplex is significant, meaning a generic complex as opposed to the CICSPlex product whose name has an upper case 'P'.

CICSPlex
A set of interconnected CICS regions. The upper case 'P' in CICSPlex is significant, meaning the CICSPlex product as opposed to a generic complex of CICS regions whose name is CICSplex with a lower case 'p'.

CICSVR
CICS VSAM Recovery. An IBM product which can be used for backout and/or forward recovery of VSAM files as used by CICS systems.

CIDDAC
Cyber Incident Detection and Analysis Center. A volunteer organization of vendors focuses on security and privacy.

CIM
Common Interface Model

CIO
Chief Information Officer. A common title for person within the enterprise having overall responsibility for information technology.

CIRT
Computer incident response team. A group organized to provide quick response to a threat to information technology resources.

CKBP, CKBR
CICS transaction identifiers, provided by MQSeries for use with the CICS 3270 Bridge.

CKD
Count Key Data. A method of direct access storage recording.

CLAW
Common Link Access to Workstation. A protocol.

client/server
A general concept in which the client issues a request to a server, the server processes the request and returns a result to the client.

CLSDST
Close Destination. A VTAM command.

CLT
Command List Table. A table used in XRF systems that contains MVS commands and messages to be issued during takeover.

Cluster
A logical collection of WebSphere application server processes

CMAC
A CICS transaction used to display individual message information similar to that provided in the CICS Messages & Codes manual.

CMAS
A CICSPlex SM term for the CICSPlex managing address space.

CMC
Communication management configuration. A configuration in which terminals are owned by a copy of VTAM in an MVS image other than the CICS active or alternate system

CMDSEC
An operand of the ASSIGN command, which returns a one byte indicator showing whether command security has been defined for the current task.

CMDT
CICS Maintained Data Table. Sometimes referred to as a CMT.

CMF
CICS Monitoring Facility. CMF collects data about the performance of all user and CICS supplied transactions during online processing for later offline analysis.

CMI
Common messaging interface. An API provided by message oriented middleware (MOM).

CMIG
A transient data destination, used to record the use of functions no longer supported by CICS.

CMIP
Common Management Information Protocol. A powerful and secure protocol used to determine network device activity.

CMOS
Complementary metal-oxide semiconductor. A hardware technology used in computers which requires less power than other semiconductors.

CMP
Container-managed persistence. An entity bean whose state is managed by the EJB container.

CMS
Conversational Monitor System. A component of the VM operating system.

CMSG
A CICS-supplied transaction for message switching.

CMT
  1. CICS Maintained Data Table. Sometimes referred to as a CMDT.
  2. Container managed transaction. Data integrity manages at the environment level and not at the individual (EJB) application level.

COBOL
Common Business Oriented Language. A English-like programming language, for use in batch or online environments.

COBOL2, COBOL3
CICS Translator options, specifying the level of COBOL (e.g. VS COBOL II) used for translating and compiling an application program.

CODE
CoOperative Development Environment. A suite of utilities for the IBM iSeries (AS/400).

COM
Component Object Module. COM libraries are provided as part of the CICS Universal Client to simplify linking from VisualBasic to CICS.

COMMAREA
Communication area. A user-defined area used to communicate information from one program or transaction to another.

Component Broker
A set of products and architectures which provide for the development, runtime support and systems management of an object oriented environment.

consistency
In the ACID sense, data integrity and validity from a business point of view.

container
  1. An EJB container is the runtime environment for Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) support.
  2. A Web container is the runtime environment for processing HTTP requests, servlets and JSPs.
  3. A facility for passing information among CICS transactions which are part of the same instance of a CICS-defined Business Transaction Services (BTS) transaction.
  4. A Component Broker application adapter that provides object services for instances of managed objects

CONVID
An option on various VTAM, LU6.1, LU6.1 and MRO commands, which provides the name of a token which identifies the conversation to which the current command applies.

control block
A generic term, usually referring to an addressable storage area which contains environmental information and possibly address pointers to other related information.

cookie
Data stored on a browser which retains some information about its use of a web server.

CORBA
Common Object Resource Broker Architecture. An industry standard for distributed, object oriented systems and applications, including services.

CORBASERVER
A CICS resource definition for EJB support. A CorbaServer is a run time environment within the CICS-provided EJB container.

COS
  1. Class of Service. A specification for VTAM LU6.2 sessions, used to prioritze ISC traffic in the network.
  2. Common Object Services.
  3. CORBA Object Services. An object naming service.

CPC
Central Processing Complex. A term, usally meant to mean a real machine, possibly part of a multi-machine complex.

CPI-C
Common Programming Interface for Communications. A programming standard introduced as part of IBM's SAA. An alternative to APPC programming.

CPMI
CICS mirror transaction, used as part of an MRO configuration, for function shipping.

CPSM
A term used with reference to IBM's CICSPlex SM/ESA product. CICSPlex is a systems management product which provides master terminal-like commands which can span an MVS sysplex, monitor and report the occurrence of user-specified events, and/or perform workload balancing.

CPU
Central Processing Unit. A general term, usually meant to imply a real machine with processors, storage and device connections. It may be used to reference only the processor(s), sometimes called 'engines'.

CQRY
A CICS transaction used to obtain hardware characteristics from a terminal.

CR
Consistent read for file data, providng locking and read integrity.

CRDI
An RDO command log on transient data, used to record installed resource definitions for programs, transactions, maps and mapsets.

CRE
Consistent read explicit (repeatable read).

CREA

Crema
A tool to scramble compile Java bytecodes so as to make (unauthorized) decompilation more difficult.

CRM
Customer Relationship Management. A common application usually providing current and historical information regarding customers of the enterprise.

CRTE
CICS routing transaction. A transaction which enables a terminal operator to specify to which CICS region the current input should be routed.

CRUD
Create, retrieve, update and delete. A generic term used to describe the activities performed with regard to these programming functions.

cryptogrophy
A method for transforming data to conceal its meaning.

CSA
  1. Common System Area. A major CICS control block used to control the operation of CICS.
  2. Common System Area. A major MVS storage area, below the 16mb line, containing pageable system data areas addressable by all active virtual address spaces.

CSAC
A CICS transaction identification used to invoke the abnormal condition program, DFHACP.

CSCC
A transient data destination used to record messages relating to CICS Client support.

CSCS
A transient data destination used to record the details of each sign-on and sign-off.

CSD
CICS System Definition. A CICS file used to retain resource definitions.

CSDL
An RDO command log on transient data, used to record RDO commands which affect the CSD.

csectL
The output of an assembly or compilation. A csect can be link edited as an executable load module or combined with other csects to make a larger executable load module (program).

CSFL
An RDO command log on transient data, used to record file resources installed in the active CICS region.

CSKL
An RDO command log on transient data, used to record transaction and profile resources installed in the active CICS region.

CSML
A transient data destination used by the CICS sign-off transaction.

CSMT
  1. A CICS master terminal transaction in older CICS products before the introduction of CICS command level support and the CEMT transaction.
  2. A CICS transient data queue (destination) for the recording of CICS terminal error and abend messages.

CSNE
  1. A transient data destination used by the node abnormal condition program and the node error program to record terminal error messages and data.
  2. A CICS transaction invoked to perform error analysis and default actions for errors detected by CICS-VTAM terminal control.

CSP
Cross System Product. An IBM product for application generation.

CSPG
A CICS BMS transaction used to send a page of display data to a terminal.

CSPL
An RDO command log on transient data, used to record program resources installed in the active CICS region.

CSPP
A CICS transaction used to print the contents of a display screen.

CSQCB***
CICS 3270 Bridge programs provided by the MQSeries product.

CSRL
An RDO command log on transient data, used to record changes to the set of partner resources installed in the active CICS region.

CSS
Cascading style sheets.

CSSL
A transient data destination used by the CICS recovery utility program to record statistics.

CST
CICS Supplied Transactions. A CICS reference manual.

CSTE
A CICS transient data destination (queue) used by the terminal abnormal condition program, DFHTACP.

CSTL
A CICS transient data destination (queue) used by the terminal abnormal condition program, DFHTACP.

CSVT
Common subroutine vector table. Used in the generation of a sample CICS node error program (NEP).

CTG
CICS Transaction Gateway. Software which may reside on an outboard server machine such as OS/2, Windows NT, AIX or Sun Solaris, or on the S/390 mainframe. The gateway provides support for Java servlets, and Java Beans which may be invoked by user-written software. The CTG can be used to transform web browser requests into CICS invocation using ECI, EPI or EXCI.

ctgcfg
A configuration tool for the CICS Transaction Gateway.

CTIN
A CICS transaction required to install remote definitions for support of CICS Client virtual terminals.

CTLCHAR
An option for terminal commands to send a write control character to a 3270 terminal or printer (e.g. should printing occur).

CTO
Chief Technology Officer. A common title for person within the enterprise having overall responsibility for information technology.

CTS
  1. Common abbreviation for CICS Transaction Server.
  2. Component Transaction Server

CUA
Common User Access. A term used in conjunction with IBM's System Application Architecture (SAA).

CVDA
CICS value data area. A means by which data values specified in a CICS command are passed to/from CICS.

CVS
Concurrent versions system. A WebSphere Studio Application Developer term.

CWA
A single CICS control block which is allocated at system initialization and persists until CICS termination, and can be used to store user data.

CWAKEY
A CICS initialization parameter used to specify the storage protection key for the CWA.

CWBA
A CICS-provided transaction started by the CWI listener (server controller) to process a single request.

CWI
CICS Web Interface. A term used to identify CICS support of the Internet prior to CICS TS for OS/390 1.3 when the designation was changed to CWS for CICS Web Support. CWI enables web browser access directly to a CICS region and its applications.

CWS
CICS Web Support. A term used to identify CICS support of the Internet beginning with CICS TS for OS/390 1.3, replacing the term CWI which was used previously. CWS contains all support previously made available with CWI, but adds EXEC CICS commands for use with so-called web aware applications which want to deal more directly with TCP data streams.
